Special events are an important aspect of the program, but they were temporarily discontinued in 2020 for COVID precautions. Gatherings are being held again as possible.
Guided Tours: Getting to Know the Community
A group of Small World students, teachers and volunteers took a guided tour of the Lawrence Public Library in Dec. 2023. Thanks to the library staff for explaining all the resources that are available in the building and online, for adults and children!
Assemblies
Assemblies celebrated and demonstrated American holidays and customs and also shared traditions from other cultures.
Potlucks
An opportunity to share and taste ethnic food from around the world.
Evening Socials
Monthly gatherings were held from May through October in private homes. The socials were a relaxing evening of conversation and refreshments in an American home for women only; men and children did not attend.
